I think I actually agree with you. Developing film, or more so, prints, is a magical experience. Because of my tendency to overcompensate (artistically) I never know how the picture is going to look until I see it in the light. The emergence of the image, first in the developer bath under a safelight, then once I turn the lights on when it's half fixed, is a journey from my expectations to reality.

Ninty nine times I'll be disappointed - my imagination was better. Once in a hundred, I'm amazed - the picture far surpassed anything I could have imagined. It is this bit of the unknown muse that keeps me attracted to film.
